SAVING SCHOOL BUILDING MONEY
2005-07-11
In the Senate, Senator Joe Carraro's bill, SB-587, that would have exempted school construction from the Little Davis Bacon law was killed on a straight party vote. All Republicans voted for it and all Democrats voted against it. The Democrats voted exactly as the Union bosses wanted. If Joe's bill had passed, all new school construction and repair would be twenty (20) to thirty (30) per cent cheaper. The taxpayers and the students all lost and the Union leaders won. I am told that the Albuquerque Public Schools testified in favor of this bill.
By not passing Little Davis Bacon, the Democrats cost the taxpayer $10 to $20 Million over the next two years! If the Democrats are giving this much to the Union bosses and their unions, why can't they give $45,000 to the service clubs of New Mexico? The answer is they are afraid of the Union Bosses and not afraid of the members of the service clubs....start calling!
